Zidane explains why Morata was sold to Chelsea

Alvaro Morata is set to become Chelsea’s most expensive signing ever after Real Madrid and the premier league side agreed a £78million deal for the striker this summer.

The Spanish international was not happy with his lack of playing-time for the Los Blancos despite winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League title last season.

Morata had initially agreed personal terms with Manchester United but Real Madrid refused to sell to the Red Devils as a payback on the David de Gea failed bid and the Red Devils unwillingness to let the Spaniard leave the club.

However, Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has come out for the first time to explain that it was all down to the player’s desire to leave the club as he wants to play regular football and win a place in the national team squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“We wish him all the luck in the world – except against Madrid,” Zidane told ESPN Mexico.

“In the end, we know that this is his home, he has been here his whole life.

“He has to make decisions and so he has decided to go to another club.”

Morata is currently undergoing his medical at Stamford Bridge and he is expected to complete his deal with the Blues later today.

Real Madrid are currently in the United States for their preseason and will face Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and an MLS All-Stars side.
