Jordin Sparks Speaks Candidly During #JordinGetsIntimate Chat

Singer talks about her breakup with Jason Derulo,
giving up old habits, new music, and more in a
BET.com original with Angela Yee.
In an exclusive sit down with Angela Yee for
the BET original, #JordinGetsIntimate, airing
Friday (Jan. 16) at noon on BET.com, Jordin
Sparks left no stone unturned and no question
unanswered.
The “Battlefield” singer responded to a variety of
topics from breaking up with a famous significant
other, getting herself back together, and putting
her all in her music.
One of the most outstanding elements discussed
is her former relationship with Jason Derulo. She
held nothing back when speaking of how she was
randomly dumped. “I’m in a good place,” the
American Idol Season 6 winner said.
Using this recent heartbreak as an opportunity to
create art, Sparks reveals that her recent release
#ByeFelicia — her first in five years — represents
her personal strength and the range of emotions
that she experienced after becoming a newly
single woman.
“I was tempted to burn and break things,” she
admitted, before adding, “I know the things I
need to work on. I don’t hide from them.”
Though their romantic relationship is over, she
still wishes her former flame a successful career.
“I wish him nothing but the best,” she said. “I
hope he gets another huge hit.”
As for her own hits, one of Sparks’s most career-
defining moments is her smash “No Air” with R&B
heartthrob Chris Brown, whom she hopes to work
with again someday. “I would love to work with
him,” she said. “It’s hard to get a hold of him
now.”
Still, Sparks is content with going solo in her
music, too. She is putting the collaborations on
hold and focusing on voicing her experiences.
She highlights three tracks from her
latest, “Double Tap,” “Left, Right” and “11:11″
that she considers her favorites.
Sparks also discusses the hardships in switched
labels, reconnecting with business partners from
the past, dating again, Instagram stalking, giving
up alcohol, and much more.
#ByeFelicia, her first mixtape, dropped in
December featuring samples of her upcoming EP,
Right Here, Right Now, available this spring.
