Baale of Shangisha kidnapped in Lagos

The spate of kidnappings in Lagos continued on Wednesday, with the abduction of the traditional ruler of Shangisha, Magodo, Lagos, Baale Yusuf Ogundare.

A police official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Ogundare’s brother, Mohammed Adams, reported that the kidnappers invited the Baale to CMD Guest house, near the Department of State Security’s office, pretending to be interested in buying a property from him.

According to the police source, “he told us the three gunmen men drove his brother in a Toyota Venza car, not knowing they were armed.

“Adams told us that he was initially in the vehicle with his brother, but was dropped off at the Domino’s Plaza junction, while his brother was taken away.”

The police officer said the kidnappers have not made contact with the family, expressing fear about the safety of the Baale.

The image maker of the Lagos State Police Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who confirmed the Baale’s abduction, said: “The Baale had been having a running battle with a man over kingship stool. We see this as case of abduction. It is not kidnap for ransom. We have the names of suspects involved. There is no cause for alarm.

“We have already commenced investigation. We will soon rescue the Baale and bring the abductors to book. We call on members of the public to come forward with useful information that will lead to the rescue of Ogundare.”
